Hurricane Dean

Jamaica

I talked this morning with missionary Steve Puffpaff, director of City of Refuge Children’s Home in the mountains just outside Kingston, the nation’s capital. High winds from Hurricane Dean completely destroyed the roofs of both dormitories at the home, as well as the top trusses of the buildings. Steve needs $15,000 immediately to replace the roofs. All of the 85 children are safe, but they are crowded together in a concrete block building since their homes are now uninhabitable. Thank the Lord that no one was injured! In faith we have forwarded funds from AG Relief so work on the roofs can begin as soon as possible.

City of Refuge is partly funded by a coffee plantation on the home’s property. Most of the coffee crop was destroyed, dealing a further economic blow to the children’s home this year.

Another missionary, Gary Pyatt, reports that he is safe. All of the other AGWM missionaries to Jamaica were not on the island when the hurricane hit.
